About Us

TimeBanks allow for people to share skills with others in their community and be rewarded for it- in time. For every hour of time a member gives by providing a service for another participant, one time token is received. These time tokens can then be exchanged when a member needs a service from someone else is in the TimeBank system. Or they can be banked for a rainy day. Or they can be granted to someone else who is in need. TimeBank exchanges have endless possibilities and transactions that range from one-to-one interactions to group activities.

Five Core Values

The Sedona TimeBank embraces the Five Core Values developed by Edgar Cahn, creator of the TimeBank concept. These core values can be used to redefine the way we live and highlight the individual aspects of human beings as ways to contribute and help the community. Time embodies humanism, incorporating mutuality, fraternity, equality of opportunity and social union. Every time a transaction occurs these values are exchanged. Everyone has meaning, everyone is valuable.

Redefining Work | Assests | Reciprocity | Social Network | Respect

1. Redefining Work involves recognition and valuing of the work that is beyond price. It is this work that builds strong families, revitalizes neighborhoods, advances social justice and makes the planet sustainable.

2. Assets remind us that every human being has something to offer. From the youngest to the oldest, from the richest to the most modest, everyone has unique strengths. Everyone is of value and deserving of respect.

3. Reciprocity is the key to a successful TimeBank because the system is based on co-production. It is much easier to ask for assistance if you know you will be giver of valuable service in the future. TimeBanks require not a direct exchange of service, but the expectation that every recipient will participate by sharing their time and gifts with someone else in the network.

4. Social Networking is used within the TimeBank to create a coordinated, choreographed social network. It champions and celebrates interdependence. Networks are stronger than individuals and can weave a community of support.

5. Respect is what underlies all transactions and interactions within the TimeBank. All people are valued; all people have something meaningful to contribute. Respect strengthens the community that binds us together.
